Article R57-5-1 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The investigating judge may decide to place an adult in judicial isolation at any time during the investigation procedure.

When referring the matter to the liberty and custody judge for the purposes of remanding the person in custody or renewing the measure, the investigating judge may indicate in his order that he wishes the person to be subjected to or maintained in judicial isolation.

La mise à l’isolement judiciaire d’une personne majeure peut être décidée à tout moment de la procédure d’information par le juge d’instruction.

Lorsqu’il saisit le juge des libertés et de la détention aux fins d’un placement en détention provisoire ou du renouvellement de la mesure, le juge d’instruction peut indiquer dans son ordonnance qu’il souhaite que la personne soit soumise ou maintenue à l’isolement judiciaire.
