Article R718-4 of the French Intellectual Property Code

The notifications provided for in this Title shall be made by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt.

Registered mail may be replaced by delivery of the letter to the addressee, against receipt, on the premises of the National Institute of Industrial Property or by a message in electronic form in accordance with the procedures laid down by the Director General of the Institute to guarantee in particular the security of the dispatch.

If the address of the addressee is unknown, notification shall be made by publication of a notice in the Official Bulletin of Industrial Property.

Les notifications prévues par le présent titre sont faites par lettre recommandée avec demande d’avis de réception.

L’envoi recommandé peut être remplacé par la remise de la lettre au destinataire, contre récépissé, dans les locaux de l’Institut national de la propriété industrielle ou par un message sous forme électronique selon les modalités fixées par le directeur général de l’institut pour garantir notamment la sécurité de l’envoi.

Si l’adresse du destinataire est inconnue, la notification est faite par publication d’un avis au Bulletin officiel de la propriété industrielle.
