Article R744-17 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

The administration provides an interpreter for foreign nationals held in an administrative detention centre or facility who do not understand French, solely in the context of deportation proceedings against them and asylum applications. In other cases, the foreign national is responsible for paying the service provider.
When the assistance of an interpreter is provided by telephone or other means of telecommunication, the name and contact details of the interpreter, as well as the language used, are mentioned in a report, a copy of which is given to the foreign national.

Article R744-17
