Article 60-6 of the French Customs Code

Visits to persons may consist of palpation or a search of their clothing, luggage and any other personal belongings, excluding any full search.

With the person’s written consent, they may also be tested for substances or plants classified as narcotics.

These operations are carried out in conditions guaranteeing respect for the dignity of the individual. They are performed out of public view, unless circumstances make this impossible.

La visite des personnes peut consister en la palpation ou en la fouille de leurs vêtements, de leurs bagages et de tous autres effets personnels, à l’exclusion de toute fouille intégrale.

Elle peut également consister, sur consentement écrit de la personne, en la réalisation d’examens de dépistage de substances ou de plantes classées comme stupéfiants.

Ces opérations s’exécutent dans des conditions garantissant le respect de la dignité de la personne. Elles sont pratiquées à l’abri du regard du public, sauf impossibilité liée aux circonstances.
