Article 803-4 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

When a person prosecuted or convicted by the French courts is arrested outside national territory in application of the provisions on the European arrest warrant or extradition or in application of an international convention, he or she may declare to the competent foreign authorities that he or she is exercising the remedies provided for by this code, in particular by lodging an opposition, appeal or recourse against the decision against him or her. In all cases, including the arrest of a person sentenced in absentia in a criminal matter, the time limits for presentation, detention or trial provided for in this code do not begin to run until the person has been handed over or returned to national territory.

Article 803-4

Lorsqu’une personne poursuivie ou condamnée par les juridictions françaises est arrêtée hors du territoire national en application des dispositions sur le mandat d’arrêt européen ou sur l’extradition ou en application d’une convention internationale, elle peut déclarer auprès des autorités étrangères compétentes qu’elle exerce les recours prévus par le présent code, notamment en formant opposition, appel ou pourvoi contre la décision dont elle fait l’objet. Dans tous les cas, y compris en cas d’arrestation d’une personne condamnée par défaut en matière criminelle, les délais de présentation, de détention ou de jugement prévus par le présent code ne commencent toutefois à courir qu’à compter de sa remise ou de son retour sur le territoire national.
