Article 886 of the French Code of civil procedure

The court clerk’s office summons the defendant by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt, at least fifteen days before the date set by the president of the court. The plaintiff is notified by any means of the place, day and time of the hearing.

Le greffe du tribunal convoque le défendeur par lettre recommandée avec demande d’avis de réception, quinze jours au moins avant la date fixée par le président du tribunal. Le demandeur est avisé par tous moyens des lieu, jour et heure de l’audience.
