Article 986 of the French Civil Code

Wills made in an island of the French territory, where there is no notary’s office, may, where all communication with the territory to which that island is attached is impossible, be received in the forms provided for in Article 985. The impossibility of communications is certified in the deed by the judge of the judicial court or the municipal officer who receives the will.

Les testaments faits dans une île du territoire français, où il n’existe pas d’office notarial, peuvent, lorsque toute communication avec le territoire auquel cette île est rattachée est impossible, être reçus dans les formes prévues à l’article 985. L’impossibilité des communications est attestée dans l’acte par le juge du tribunal judiciaire ou l’officier municipal qui reçoit le testament.
