The National Sports Museum is responsible for
1° The study and presentation to the public of sport and its related heritage, considered in their historical, scientific, artistic, sociological or technical dimensions, and the provision of the documentation collected;
2° The conservation, protection and restoration, on behalf of the State, of cultural property listed in its inventories and in its care;
3° Enriching national collections by acquiring cultural property on behalf of the State;
4° The design and implementation of educational and dissemination activities aimed at ensuring equal access for all to sport and the related heritage;
5° Contributing to the advancement of knowledge and research into contemporary sport and its dissemination.
The museum carries out its missions throughout France and cooperates with foreign organisations with the same missions.
Its headquarters are in Paris. It may be modified by order of the Minister for Sport.
