Article D112-4 of the French Sports Code

The National Sports Museum is responsible for

1° The study and presentation to the public of sport and its related heritage, considered in their historical, scientific, artistic, sociological or technical dimensions, and the provision of the documentation collected;

2° The conservation, protection and restoration, on behalf of the State, of cultural property listed in its inventories and in its care;

3° Enriching national collections by acquiring cultural property on behalf of the State;

4° The design and implementation of educational and dissemination activities aimed at ensuring equal access for all to sport and the related heritage;

5° Contributing to the advancement of knowledge and research into contemporary sport and its dissemination.

The museum carries out its missions throughout France and cooperates with foreign organisations with the same missions.

Its headquarters are in Paris. It may be modified by order of the Minister for Sport.

Article D112-4

Le Musée national du sport a pour missions :

1° L’étude, la présentation au public du fait sportif et du patrimoine qui s’y rapporte, considérés dans leurs dimensions historique, scientifique, artistique, sociologique ou technique, et la mise à disposition de la documentation recueillie ;

2° La conservation, la protection et la restauration pour le compte de l’Etat des biens culturels inscrits sur ses inventaires et dont il a la garde ;

3° L’enrichissement des collections nationales par l’acquisition de biens culturels pour le compte de l’Etat ;

4° La conception et la mise en oeuvre des actions d’éducation et de diffusion visant à assurer l’égal accès de tous au fait sportif et au patrimoine qui s’y rapporte ;

5° La contribution aux progrès de la connaissance et de la recherche sur le fait sportif actuel ainsi qu’à leur diffusion.

Le musée exerce ses missions sur l’ensemble du territoire national et coopère avec des organismes étrangers ayant les mêmes missions.

Son siège est à Paris. Il peut être modifié par arrêté du ministre chargé des sports.
