Article D147-13 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

When, as a result of sentence reductions granted by the sentence enforcement judge, the sentenced person has no remaining sentence to serve, the information provided for in the penultimate paragraph of Article 721 is made by the sentence enforcement judge or, on the latter’s instruction, by the prison integration and probation service.

This information may also be sent to the sentenced person by registered letter.

This information may also be given by the public prosecutor or, on the latter’s instructions, by his delegate, where the copy of the judgment has not been sent by this magistrate to the sentence enforcement judge.

Lorsque, du fait des réductions de peine octroyées par le juge de l’application des peines, il ne reste plus pour le condamné de reliquat de peine à exécuter, l’information prévue par l’avant dernier alinéa de l’article 721 est faite par le juge de l’application des peines ou, sur instruction de ce dernier, par le service pénitentiaire d’insertion et de probation.

Cette information peut également être adressée au condamné par lettre recommandée.

Cette information peut également être faite par le procureur de la République ou, sur instruction de ce dernier, par son délégué, lorsque la copie du jugement n’a pas été adressée par ce magistrat au juge de l’application des peines.
