Article D217-1 of the French Consumer Code

In application of article L. 217-10, the seller shall inform the consumer of the practical arrangements for returning the goods if they cannot be brought into conformity at the place where the goods are located.

If the goods can be returned by post without causing the consumer any major inconvenience or incurring costs disproportionate to their value, the consumer shall send the goods to the seller by post. In this case, article L. 241-6 is applicable.

In any event, the consumer may not be required to ensure or pay for the transport of the goods other than by post.

En application de l’article L. 217-10, le vendeur indique au consommateur les modalités pratiques de renvoi du bien si sa mise en conformité ne peut intervenir sur le lieu où le bien se trouve.


Si le bien peut faire l’objet d’un renvoi par voie postale, sans entraîner pour le consommateur d’inconvénient majeur ou des frais disproportionnés au regard de sa valeur, le consommateur expédie ce bien au vendeur par cette voie. Dans ce cas, l’article L. 241-6 est applicable.


En tout état de cause, le consommateur ne peut être tenu d’assurer, ni de prendre en charge le transport du bien hors envoi postal.
