The midwives provide couples with the information and support they need at every stage of the medically assisted reproduction procedure, in conjunction with the centre’s doctors.
Before and during the implementation of this procedure, the midwives may carry out the following activities during specific consultations:
– programming and implementing the management protocol drawn up by the doctor for each patient ;
– therapeutic education ;
– prescribing and monitoring biological tests ;
– ultrasound monitoring of ovarian response to treatment, provided that their experience and training in this field have been deemed sufficient by the medically assisted reproduction practitioners working in the centre. Midwives carry out ultrasound scans on a doctor’s prescription and draw up a report which is sent to the doctor.
During artificial insemination, oocyte retrieval and embryo transfer, midwives may provide technical assistance to the operators and contribute to the post-operative monitoring of patients.
Midwives participate in monitoring attempts and collecting data on the outcome of these attempts and, where applicable, on pregnancies obtained, deliveries and the state of health of mothers and newborns.
