Article D5334-6 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

The mayors who are members of the commission and their alternates are appointed for a period of six years after each general renewal of the municipal councils.

They cease to hold office when they have lost the capacity in which they were elected.

In the event of a vacancy for any reason whatsoever, a new member shall be appointed, in accordance with the procedures laid down in article D. 5334-4, for the remainder of the term before the next renewal of the members of the commission.

Les maires membres de la commission et leurs suppléants sont désignés pour une période de six ans après chaque renouvellement général des conseils municipaux.

Ils cessent leur mandat lorsqu’ils ont perdu la qualité en laquelle ils ont été élus.

En cas de vacance, pour quelque cause que ce soit, il est procédé à la désignation, selon les modalités prévues à l’article D. 5334-4, d’un nouveau membre pour la durée restant à courir avant le prochain renouvellement des membres de la commission.
