I. – Every critical care unit includes at least the following sectors:
1° A reception area with at least one room for patients’ relatives to relax in and a room dedicated to discussions between the care team and families, with due regard for confidentiality ;
2° An inpatient sector consisting of individual rooms with equipment adapted to the age, safety of care and comfort of patients, while respecting their privacy. This sector includes care stations adapted to the needs of the department, enabling patients to be monitored, their records to be managed and medical and paramedical communications to be carried out. In paediatric units, the equipment can accommodate accompanying persons;
3° A technical and administrative area adapted to the unit’s activities;
4° An accommodation area for doctors on medical duty, within or in the immediate vicinity of the intensive care unit;
5° An area suitable for daily group meetings, allowing all the unit’s medical and paramedical staff to meet, and equipped with the digital tools required for remote meetings.
The areas mentioned in 1°, 3°, 4° and 5° may be shared by several adjacent units with shared teams.
II. – The beds in the multi-purpose intensive care unit adjacent to the intensive care unit of category 1 mentioned in article R. 6123-34-1 and of categories 1° and 2° mentioned in article R. 6123-34-2 are shared and identically equipped in such a way as to allow the intensive care capacity to evolve according to variations in activity and the levels of patient care required.
