Article L121-12 of the French Consumer Code

It is prohibited to require immediate or deferred payment for goods or services supplied by a trader or, in the case of goods, to require their return or preservation, without the goods having been the subject of a prior order by the consumer.
The provisions of this article also apply to contracts for the supply of water, gas or electricity where they are not packaged in a delimited volume or in a specific quantity as well as to the supply of district heating and digital content not supplied on a tangible medium.

Est interdit le fait d’exiger le paiement immédiat ou différé de biens ou de services fournis par un professionnel ou, s’agissant de biens, d’exiger leur renvoi ou leur conservation, sans que ceux-ci aient fait l’objet d’une commande préalable du consommateur.
Les dispositions du présent article s’appliquent également aux contrats portant sur la fourniture d’eau, de gaz ou d’électricité lorsqu’ils ne sont pas conditionnés dans un volume délimité ou en quantité déterminée ainsi que sur la fourniture de chauffage urbain et de contenu numérique non fourni sur support matériel.
