Article L122-1 of the French Insurance Code

The fire insurer is liable for all damage caused by conflagration, flashover or simple combustion. However, it is not liable, unless otherwise agreed, for damage caused solely by the action of heat or by direct and immediate contact with fire or an incandescent substance if there has been no fire or the beginning of a fire likely to degenerate into a real fire.

L’assureur contre l’incendie répond de tous dommages causés par conflagration, embrasement ou simple combustion. Toutefois, il ne répond pas, sauf convention contraire, de ceux occasionnés par la seule action de la chaleur ou par le contact direct et immédiat du feu ou d’une substance incandescente s’il n’y a eu ni incendie, ni commencement d’incendie susceptible de dégénérer en incendie véritable.
