Article L131-5 of the French Monetary and Financial Code

The cheque cannot be accepted. A statement of acceptance on the cheque is deemed to be unwritten.

However, the drawee may endorse the cheque; endorsement has the effect of establishing the existence of the funds on the date on which it is given.
