Article L172-18 of the French Insurance Code

The insurer is not liable for :

a) damage to or loss of property resulting from the inherent vice of the insured object, except as provided for in article L. 173-4 with regard to latent defects in the vessel;

b) damage to or loss of property resulting from fines, confiscation, sequestration, requisitioning, sanitary or disinfection measures or following violations of blockades, acts of smuggling or prohibited or clandestine trade;

c) damages or other compensation in respect of any seizures or bonds given to release seized objects;

d) losses which do not constitute material damage or loss directly affecting the insured object, such as unemployment, delay, difference in price, hindrance to the insured’s trade.

L’assureur n’est pas garant :

a) des dommages et pertes matériels provenant du vice propre de l’objet assuré, sauf ce qui est dit à l’article L. 173-4 quant au vice caché du navire ;

b) des dommages et pertes matériels résultant des amendes, confiscations, mises sous séquestre, réquisitions, mesures sanitaires ou de désinfection ou consécutifs à des violations de blocus, actes de contrebande, de commerce prohibé ou clandestin ;

c) des dommages-intérêts ou autres indemnités à raison de toutes saisies ou cautions données pour libérer les objets saisis ;

d) des préjudices qui ne constituent pas des dommages et pertes matériels atteignant directement l’objet assuré, tels que chômage, retard, différence de cours, obstacle apporté au commerce de l’assuré.
