Article L172-20 of the French Insurance Code

Failure to pay a premium entitles the insurer either to suspend the insurance or to request its cancellation.

Suspension or cancellation does not take effect until eight days after formal notice to pay has been sent by registered post to the insured at the last address known to the insurer.

Le défaut de paiement d’une prime permet à l’assureur soit de suspendre l’assurance, soit d’en demander la résiliation.

La suspension ou la résiliation ne prend effet que huit jours après l’envoi à l’assuré, à son dernier domicile connu de l’assureur, et par lettre recommandée, d’une mise en demeure d’avoir à payer.
