Article L2541-25 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

The mayor, in an emergency, may, without the prior authorisation of the municipal council, bring and defend possessory actions and perform any legal act necessary to preserve the rights of the municipality or to avoid the consequences resulting from the expiry of time limits.

He reports to the municipal council at its next meeting.

Le maire, en cas d’urgence, peut, sans l’autorisation préalable du conseil municipal, intenter les actions possessoires et y défendre ainsi qu’accomplir tout acte juridique nécessaire pour conserver les droits de la commune ou pour éviter les conséquences résultant de l’expiration des délais.

Il en rend compte au conseil municipal lors de sa plus prochaine séance.
