Article L2542-6 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

At least once a year, the mayor must inspect or have inspected the fireplaces and chimneys of all buildings less than 200 metres from dwellings, after the day of the inspection has been made public at least one week in advance.

After the inspection, the cleaning, repair or demolition of fireplaces and chimneys that do not comply with legal requirements may be ordered.

Le maire doit au moins une fois l’an inspecter ou faire inspecter les foyers et cheminées de tous bätiments éloignés de moins de 200 mètres des habitations, après que le jour de l’inspection a été rendu public au moins une semaine à l’avance.
