When it is necessary because of the transmissible nature of the infections of the persons accommodated, cared for or transported, or because of the risk factors for the acquisition of infections by the persons admitted to these premises or transported in these vehicles, disinfection must be carried out using biocidal products:
1° Premises where patients have been admitted or accommodated and those where medical, paramedical or veterinary care is provided;
2° Vehicles used for medical transport or transporting corpses;
3° Premises and vehicles exposed to the micro-organisms and toxins mentioned in article L. 5139-1.
This disinfection is carried out using equipment approved by organisations whose list is established by decision of the Agence nationale de sécurité du médicament et des produits de santé.
In towns with a population of 20,000 or more, disinfection measures are carried out by the municipal authorities in accordance with orders issued by the mayor and, in towns with a population of less than 20,000, by a departmental service.
Municipalities with fewer than twenty thousand inhabitants that have set up a municipal health and hygiene service may, in exceptional circumstances, be authorised by the Minister of Health to have an independent disinfection service.
If towns and departments fail to organise disinfection services and ensure their operation, they are provided for by decrees of the Conseil d’Etat.
