Article L3244-1 of the French Labour Code

In all commercial establishments where tipping is practised, all collections made “for service” by the employer in the form of a mandatory percentage added to customers’ bills or otherwise, as well as all sums voluntarily given by customers for service in the hands of the employer, or centralised by him, are paid in full to the staff in contact with customers and to whom it was customary to give them directly.

Dans tous les établissements commerciaux où existe la pratique du pourboire, toutes les perceptions faites ” pour le service ” par l’employeur sous forme de pourcentage obligatoirement ajouté aux notes des clients ou autrement, ainsi que toutes sommes remises volontairement par les clients pour le service entre les mains de l’employeur, ou centralisées par lui, sont intégralement versées au personnel en contact avec la clientèle et à qui celle-ci avait coutume de les remettre directement.
