Article L554-3 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

Asylum seekers are subject to the ordinary law rules applicable to foreign workers for the issue of a work permit. However, the administrative authority has an investigation period of two months from receipt of the application for a work permit to ensure that the employment of the foreign national complies with the conditions of ordinary law for access to the labour market. If no notification is received within this period, authorisation is deemed to have been granted. It is applicable for the duration of the asylum seeker’s right to remain on French territory.

Le demandeur d’asile est soumis aux règles de droit commun applicables aux travailleurs étrangers pour la délivrance d’une autorisation de travail. Toutefois, l’autorité administrative dispose d’un délai d’instruction de deux mois à compter de la réception de la demande d’autorisation de travail pour s’assurer que l’embauche de l’étranger respecte les conditions de droit commun d’accès au marché du travail. A défaut de notification dans ce délai, l’autorisation est réputée acquise. Elle est applicable pendant la durée du droit au maintien sur le territoire français du demandeur d’asile.
