Article L733-1 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

A foreign national placed under house arrest pursuant to this Title shall report periodically to the police or gendarmerie units.
He shall also report, when requested to do so by the administrative authority, to the consular authorities, with a view to the issue of a travel document.

L’étranger assigné à résidence en application du présent titre se présente périodiquement aux services de police ou aux unités de gendarmerie.
Il se présente également, lorsque l’autorité administrative le lui demande, aux autorités consulaires, en vue de la délivrance d’un document de voyage.
