The territorial council is assisted in an advisory capacity by an economic, social and cultural council made up of representatives of professional groups, trade unions, organisations and associations that contribute to the economic, social and cultural life of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. Each category of activity is represented on the Economic, Social and Cultural Council by a number of councillors corresponding to the importance of that activity in the economic, social and cultural life of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon.
An order by the Minister for Overseas Territories draws up the list of organisations and activities in the community that are represented on the Economic, Social and Cultural Council. This order also sets the number of representatives of these bodies and activities and the conditions for their appointment.
The members of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council are appointed for five years. The council is renewed in its entirety.
Territorial councillors may not be members of this council.
