Article R113 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

When the experts justify that they were unable to carry out their mission due to circumstances beyond their control, the instructing magistrates may, by reasoned decision submitted for the approval of the president of the investigating chamber, award them compensation, in addition to their travel, subsistence and other out-of-pocket expenses if applicable.

Lorsque les experts justifient qu’ils se sont trouvés, par suite de circonstances indépendantes de leur volonté, dans l’impossibilité de remplir leur mission, les magistrats commettants peuvent, par décision motivée soumise à l’agrément du président de la chambre de l’instruction, leur allouer une indemnité, outre leurs frais de transport, de séjour et autres débours s’il y a lieu.
