When the body arrives at the establishment, it is taken in charge by the body reception structure which ensures its preservation until the end of the medical teaching and research activities, except in the situations provided for in III and IV of article R. 1261-18.
An identifying number is allocated in order to guarantee the confidentiality of the donor’s identity for the duration of the medical teaching and research activities. This number is the only means of identifying the body for the duration of its use.
The identifying number is recorded in the register provided for in article R. 1261-32 kept by the person in charge of the body reception facility.
The identity of the donor’s body is returned to the donor at the end of medical teaching and research activities with a view to funeral operations or the return of the body or ashes to the reference person designated in application of IV of article R. 1261-1, to the family or to the next of kin.
