For the application of article R. 211-21-1, any insurance company operating in the territory of the French Republic must issue, free of charge, a certificate for each of the vehicles covered by the contract, with the exception of trailers.
The certificate must state
a) The name of the insurance company ;
b) A number identifying the policyholder;
c) The vehicle registration number;
d) The engine number if the vehicle is not subject to registration;
e) The start and end dates of validity.
By way of derogation from the second paragraph, the certificate issued to the persons mentioned in paragraph 1 of article R. 211-3 must only include indications a, b and e as well as the word “Garage” in clear terms.
Any driver of a vehicle to which the certificate described in the previous paragraph is affixed must also be able to prove to the authorities responsible for checking supporting documents that he has been entrusted with driving the vehicle by one of the persons mentioned in the first paragraph of article R. 211-3.
