Article R*211-22 of the French Insurance Code

Persons who bring into France a vehicle that is not normally based in France or in a State referred to in article L. 211-4 must comply with the insurance obligation if they are in possession of a valid international insurance card known as a “green card”.

The international insurance card is issued in the name of a bureau set up to issue insurance certificates in accordance with the formula adopted by the Road Transport Sub-Committee of the Inland Transport Committee of the Economic Commission for Europe.

Satisfont à l’obligation d’assurance, lorsqu’elles sont munies d’une carte internationale d’assurance dite ” carte verte ” en état de validité, les personnes qui font pénétrer en France un véhicule qui n’a pas son lieu de stationnement habituel en France ou dans un Etat visé à l’article L. 211-4.

La carte internationale d’assurance est délivrée au nom d’un bureau constitué pour l’émission de certificats d’assurance suivant la formule adoptée par le sous-comité des transports routiers du comité des transports intérieurs de la commission économique pour l’Europe.
