Article R2213-44 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

In order to ensure the enforcement of police measures prescribed by laws and regulations, in particular public health measures, the officials mentioned in article L. 2213-14 assist with the operations following the death listed in article R. 2213-45.

Under the authority of the prefect in communes located in a State police zone and of the mayor in other communes, they may attend, as necessary, any of the operations mentioned in sub-section 2 of this section.

These officials draw up minutes of the operations they have carried out or attended and forward these documents to the mayor of the municipality concerned.

Afin d’assurer l’exécution des mesures de police prescrites par les lois et les règlements, notamment les mesures de salubrité publique, les fonctionnaires mentionnés à l’article L. 2213-14 assistent aux opérations consécutives au décès énumérées à l’article R. 2213-45.

Sous l’autorité du préfet dans les communes situées en zone de police d’Etat et du maire dans les autres communes, ils peuvent assister, en tant que de besoin, à toute opération mentionnée à la sous-section 2 de la présente section.

Ces fonctionnaires dressent procès-verbal des opérations auxquelles ils ont procédé ou assisté et transmettent ces documents au maire de la commune concernée.
