Article R322-97 of the French Insurance Code

Regional mutual insurance companies must limit their territorial scope to the region of their registered office and to the departments of other regions if they border on the department of the registered office. These companies may only insure risks located in the said area.

Professional mutual insurance companies may only group members exercising the same profession or related professions, which must be determined by their articles of association; they may only insure risks relating to the exercise of these professions.

Les sociétés mutuelles d’assurance à caractère régional doivent limiter leur circonscription territoriale à la région de leur siège social ainsi qu’aux départements d’autres régions s’ils sont limitrophes du département du siège social. Ces sociétés ne peuvent assurer que des risques situés dans ladite circonscription.

Les sociétés mutuelles d’assurance à caractère professionnel ne peuvent grouper que des membres exerçant la même profession ou des professions connexes, lesquelles doivent être déterminées par leurs statuts ; elles ne peuvent assurer que des risques se rattachant à l’exercice de ces professions.
