The periodic inspection referred to in article R. 342-12-1 concerns the adequacy of the safety management system in relation to the safety issues of the operation.
The operator shall have it carried out at least every two years:
a) Either by an accredited inspection body, based on the relevant NF standard or an equivalent standard, which undertakes to submit its inspection report to the operator under the conditions set out in article R. 342-12-4 and to inform the technical service for ski lifts and guided transport annually of the conclusions it draws from its assessment of safety management systems;
b) Or by an inspection body approved for a period of five years by the technical service for ski lifts and guided transport, on the basis of its competence and independence, as well as its commitment to respect the principles of impartiality and confidentiality, to submit its inspection reports under the conditions provided for in Article R. 342-12-4, to submit an annual activity report to this department and to inform it of any change in the factors on the basis of which approval was granted;
c) Or by a natural person approved as a safety management system auditor under the same conditions.
If an operator with no cable car or funicular or rack railway chooses to undergo periodic inspection, the interval between inspections is no more than three years.
An order by the Minister for Transport specifies the content of the application file for the approvals mentioned in b and c and the conditions under which an approval may be withdrawn if one of the conditions under which it was issued is no longer met or if the commitments made are not fulfilled.
