Article R342-12-3 of the French Tourism Code

When they choose to submit their safety management system to periodic inspection under the conditions set out in article R. 342-12-2, operators must inform the Prefect. They shall have an initial inspection carried out within a maximum of six months of this notification.

Periodic inspections are compulsory for operators with more than the number of cable cars, funicular railways or rack railways set by order of the Minister for Transport. Any operator newly subject to this obligation must have its safety management system audited for the first time within a maximum period of six months from the date on which it begins to operate installations exceeding the threshold set by this order.

Lorsqu’ils choisissent de soumettre leur système de gestion de la sécurité au contrôle périodique dans les conditions prévues par l’article R. 342-12-2, les exploitants en informent le préfet. Ils font effectuer un premier contrôle dans un délai maximum de six mois à compter de cette information.

Le contrôle périodique est obligatoire pour les exploitants disposant d’un nombre de téléphériques ou de chemins de fer funiculaires ou à crémaillère supérieur à un nombre fixé par arrêté du ministre chargé des transports. Tout exploitant nouvellement soumis à cette obligation fait procéder au premier contrôle de son système de gestion de la sécurité dans un délai maximum de six mois à compter de la date à laquelle il commence à exploiter des installations dont le nombre excède le seuil fixé par cet arrêté.
