Article R6123-44 of the French Public Health Code

The neonatology unit provides round-the-clock surveillance and the specialised care mentioned in article R. 6123-41 every day of the year, whether or not newborn babies are born in the establishment.

An intensive care sector for newborns presenting one or more acute pathologies or coming out of a neonatal intensive care unit may be organised within the neonatology unit.

If the neonatology unit where the child is located is unable to provide appropriate care for the newborn, it will arrange for the child to be transferred to a unit or establishment capable of providing appropriate care.

L’unité de néonatologie assure tous les jours de l’année, vingt-quatre heures sur vingt-quatre, la surveillance et les soins spécialisés mentionnés à l’article R. 6123-41, que les nouveau-nés soient ou non nés dans l’établissement.

Un secteur de soins intensifs aux nouveau-nés présentant une ou plusieurs pathologies aiguës ou sortant d’une unité de réanimation néonatale peut être organisé au sein de l’unité de néonatologie.

Si l’unité de néonatologie où se trouve l’enfant ne peut assurer la prise en charge adaptée du nouveau-né, elle organise son transfert vers une unité ou un établissement aptes à délivrer les soins appropriés.
