Section 1: Definitions.

Campsites are placed in one of the categories designated by an increasing number of stars or in the “natural area” category, according to the criteria set out in a classification table drawn up by the body mentioned in article L. 141-2 and approved by order of the Minister responsible for tourism.

The following are classified as campsites a) Camping and caravanning sites classified as “tourism” if more than half of the number of pitches designated as “tourism” pitches are intended to be rented by the night, by the week or by the month to a visiting clientele; b) With the wording “leisure”, developed camping and caravanning sites if more than half of the number of pitches designated as “leisure” pitches are…

Notwithstanding the first two paragraphs of article D. 331-1-1, campsites classified as “natural areas” are intended exclusively for tents, caravans and motor caravans. Light leisure dwellings and mobile leisure homes are prohibited. They must not be used for more than six months a year, whether continuous or not.
