Section 3: Insurance obligation for organisers of sporting events

The organisation by any person other than the State and the bodies mentioned in article L. 321-1 of sporting events open to licence holders of federations is subject to the organiser taking out the insurance cover defined in the same article L. 321-1.

The organisation by any person other than the State of sporting events involving the participation of land motor vehicles is subject to the organiser taking out insurance cover. This insurance covers the civil liability of the organiser, any person who assists in the organisation with the agreement of the organiser and the participants. The insured parties are third parties to each other.

A decree sets out the terms and conditions for the application of articles L. 331-9 and L. 331-10, and in particular the control procedures.

Failure by a person organising a sporting event as defined in article L. 331-9 to take out the insurance cover provided for in that article is punishable by six months’ imprisonment and a fine of €7,500.
