Section 4: Miscellaneous and transitional provisions

Agents of local authorities and their public establishments may not perform the duties of a volunteer firefighter during duty time, except in the cases provided for by loi n° 96-370 du 3 mai 1996 relative au développement du volontariat dans les corps de sapeurs-pompiers.

An order of the minister responsible for civil security shall determine the composition and the conditions of wearing, during service, of firefighters’ outfits and uniforms. The characteristics and design of the personal protective equipment, clothing effects, badges and attributes making up these outfits and uniforms shall be defined in national reference systems approved by the minister responsible for civil security.

The internal regulations of the departmental or territorial fire and rescue service determine those mixed centres which, although called upon to be commanded by a professional firefighter by application of the second paragraph of article R. 1424-41, continue, by necessity of service, to be commanded by a volunteer firefighter. It also stipulates the period of time after which command will revert to a professional firefighter.

A joint order of the minister responsible for civil security and the minister responsible for the civil service defines the general conditions for the organisation and assessment of training courses for professional and volunteer fire fighters.
