Chapter III: Support for the Labour Inspectorate

Together with the Labour Inspectorate and in liaison with the Technical Committees of the Social Security Funds, the Medical Inspectorate ensures that the legal provisions relating to health and safety at work are applied.

The occupational health physician inspector is permanently involved in protecting workers in the workplace. This also includes monitoring the operation of occupational health services.

The occupational health inspector communicates to the technical committees of the social security funds the information he possesses on the risks of occupational diseases and accidents inherent in the various companies.

In close coordination with the psycho-technical services, the occupational health inspector carries out medical examinations of workers with a view to their vocational guidance, reclassification and referral to rehabilitation centres of those who are temporarily unfit for work or physically disabled.

The Medical Inspector is placed under the authority of the Regional Director of Companies, Competition, Consumption, Labour and Employment, except in the exercise of the powers that he/she derives directly from legal provisions, and subject to the provisions of article R. 8123-7.

The medical labour inspector is placed under the authority of the head of the medical labour inspection department for the exercise of his technical skills.
