The establishments referred to in article L. 322-2 which organise, offer or host equestrian activities, including polo, are covered by this section.
The organisation of activities takes into account the level of the horses, the level of the riders and any weather conditions.
An equine entrusted to a rider must be in good health, fit and prepared for the exercise required. This exercise must not endanger the safety of the rider or third parties.
The equipment used for riding must not be a source of injury to the horse or rider and must be kept clean and in good condition.
Second-hand personal protective equipment such as helmets and protective waistcoats may be made available or hired for equestrian activities in accordance with the provisions of the Labour Code and this Code.
It is compulsory for all minors to wear a helmet that complies with current standards, with the exception of aerobatics or when on foot.
Where helmets or protective waistcoats are hired or made available to riders, they must be kept clean and in good condition.
The overall design of the equipment, premises, stables, riding arenas, training tracks and outdoor installations, meadows, paddocks, internal circulation routes and access to the outside of the establishment must be compatible with the nature of the equestrian activity practised and the safety of riders, equidae and third parties. These installations must be maintained in good condition.
Fences and boot guards must be continuous, smooth and designed to prevent accidents to riders and maintained in good condition.
During public opening hours, access to storage areas for equipment, tools and products used to maintain the facilities, forage and manure, and veterinary products must be secured and suitably signposted to ensure the safety of people.
