Selective financial aid is awarded prior to production for the production of feature-length fiction or animated films, selected by a jury, that respond to a theme within a particular genre defined each year by the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée and have artistic merit.This aid is awarded once a year, for a maximum of three works.
The following works are eligible for support for the production of genre films:1° They meet the general conditions set out in sub-section 2 of section 1 of this chapter;2° They are in original French or, if at least two different languages are used, they are works in which French or a regional language in use in France is the language used most often. The same project cannot benefit from both production aid for genre films and production aid before and after completion.
The application for support is submitted by the delegated production company, up to a limit of two projects per company for each annual session.
The amount of aid is set at €500,000 per project, subject to the provisions of articles 211-20 to 211-22.
Projects are pre-selected by reading committees. The shortlisted projects are submitted to the genre film jury for selection.
The decision to grant aid lapses if filming does not begin within a maximum of twenty-four months from the date of notification to the beneficiary. In exceptional circumstances, and at the reasoned request of the production company, the aforementioned period may be extended for a period not exceeding one year, by decision of the President of the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée.
Aid is awarded in the same form and according to the same procedures as those set out in articles 211-107,211-109 and 211-110.
