Article 62-1 of the French Civil Code

If the transcription of the paternal acknowledgement proves impossible, due to the secrecy of his identity opposed by the mother, the father may inform the public prosecutor. The latter will search for the date and place of establishment of the child’s birth certificate.

Si la transcription de la reconnaissance paternelle s’avère impossible, du fait du secret de son identité opposé par la mère, le père peut en informer le procureur de la République. Celui-ci procède à la recherche des date et lieu d’établissement de l’acte de naissance de l’enfant.
