Article A211-6 of the French Insurance Code

As regards the supporting document provided for in Article R. 211-15, the following must be indicated under the vehicle’s characteristics:

1° In all cases, the type and make of the vehicle ;

2° In the case of a vehicle subject to registration, its registration number;

3° In the case of a vehicle not subject to registration, the engine number, if applicable.

At least one of the characteristics listed above must be entered on the supporting document by the insurance company issuing it. To be valid, the supporting document must, where applicable, be completed by the user of the vehicle before any use.

En ce qui concerne le document justificatif prévu à l’article R. 211-15, doivent être indiqués au titre des caractéristiques du véhicule :

1° Dans tous les cas, le genre et la marque du véhicule ;

2° Lorsqu’il s’agit d’un véhicule soumis à immatriculation, son numéro d’immatriculation ;

3° Lorsqu’il s’agit d’un véhicule non soumis à immatriculation, le numéro du moteur, s’il y a lieu.

L’une au moins des caractéristiques ci-dessus énumérées doit être portée sur le document justificatif par l’entreprise d’assurance qui le délivre. Pour être valable, le document justificatif doit, le cas échéant, être complété par l’utilisateur du véhicule avant tout emploi.
