Article D116-3 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

Where a convicted person has to serve several custodial sentences covered by separate sentence reduction schemes, the strictest scheme shall apply as long as one or more of the sentences being served or due to be served corresponds to one of the convictions referred to in articles 721-1-1 and 721-1-2 or to one of the situations described in the eighth paragraph of Article 721. These rules are no longer applicable when all of these sentences have been served.

Lorsqu’une personne condamnée doit exécuter plusieurs peines privatives de liberté relevant de régimes de réduction de peine distincts, le régime le plus strict s’applique tant qu’une ou plusieurs des peines en cours d’exécution ou devant être exécutée correspond à l’une des condamnations visées aux articles 721-1-1 et 721-1-2 ou à l’une des situations décrites au huitième alinéa de l’article 721. Ces règles ne sont plus applicables lorsque l’ensemble de ces peines a été exécuté.
