Article D147-20 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

When a convicted person is serving one or more custodial sentences of a total duration of less than or equal to two years, the prison administration shall inform him, at least one month before the remainder of the sentence is equal to three months, or if the sentence is less than or equal to six months, when he is committed to prison or when the sentence becomes final, that he is likely to benefit from compulsory release as of right, even if he opposes it.

The provisions of this article and that of this sub-section do not apply in the cases referred to in III of article 720.

Lorsqu’une personne condamnée exécute une ou plusieurs peines privatives de liberté d’une durée totale inférieure ou égale à deux ans, l’administration pénitentiaire l’informe, au moins un mois avant que le reliquat de la peine soit égal à trois mois, ou si la peine est inférieure ou égale à six mois, lors de sa mise sous écrou ou lorsque la peine devient définitive, qu’elle est susceptible de bénéficier d’une libération sous contrainte de plein droit, même si elle s’y oppose.


Les dispositions du présent article et celle de la présente sous-section ne sont pas applicables dans les cas visés au III de l’article 720.
