Article L120-2 of the French Consumer Code

In retail outlets, the reusable container may be provided by the retailer at the point of sale or brought by the consumer.

Any end consumer may ask to be served in a container brought by them, as long as it is visibly clean and suitable for the nature of the product purchased.

In-store signage informs the end consumer that the reusable container is available at the point of sale.

In this case, the consumer is responsible for the hygiene and suitability of the container.

The retailer may refuse the service if the container offered is obviously dirty or unsuitable.

Dans les commerces de vente au détail, le contenant réutilisable peut être fourni par le détaillant sur le lieu de vente ou être apporté par le consommateur.


Tout consommateur final peut demander à être servi dans un contenant apporté par ses soins, dans la mesure où ce dernier est visiblement propre et adapté à la nature du produit acheté.


Un affichage en magasin informe le consommateur final sur les règles de nettoyage et d’aptitude des contenants réutilisables.


Dans ce cas, le consommateur est responsable de l’hygiène et de l’aptitude du contenant.


Le commerçant peut refuser le service si le contenant proposé est manifestement sale ou inadapté.
