Article L131-18 of the French Monetary and Financial Code

The endorsement must be pure and simple. Any condition to which it is subject is deemed unwritten.

Partial endorsement is null and void.

The endorsement of the drawee is also null and void.

A bearer endorsement is equivalent to a blank endorsement.

Endorsement to the drawee is only valid as a receipt, except in the case where the drawee has several establishments and the endorsement is made in favour of an establishment other than the one on which the cheque was drawn.

L’endossement doit être pur et simple. Toute condition à laquelle il est subordonné est réputée non écrite.

L’endossement partiel est nul.

Est également nul l’endossement du tiré.

L’endossement au porteur vaut comme un endossement en blanc.

L’endossement au tiré ne vaut que comme quittance, sauf dans le cas où le tiré a plusieurs établissements et où l’endossement est fait au bénéfice d’un établissement autre que celui sur lequel le chèque a été tiré.
