All pregnant women are provided with a free pregnancy record book at the time of the first prenatal examination. An interministerial decree determines the model and method of use of this booklet, which must include the results of the examinations prescribed in application of article L. 2122-1 and in which all important observations concerning the progress of the pregnancy and the health of the expectant mother are also noted.
The booklet belongs to the mother-to-be. She must be informed that no-one may demand to see it and that any person called upon, by virtue of their position, to be privy to the information contained therein is bound by professional secrecy.
At the request of the putative father, the doctor may report to him on the state of health of the mother-to-be, in compliance with the rules of medical ethics.
