Article L3241-1 of the French Labour Code

Subject to legislative provisions requiring wages to be paid in a specific form, wages are paid in cash or by crossed cheque or by transfer to a bank or post office account held by the employee or jointly by the employee. The employee may not appoint a third party to receive his salary.

Any stipulation to the contrary is null and void.

Below a monthly amount determined by decree, the salary is paid in cash to the employee who requests it.

Above a monthly amount determined by decree, the salary is paid by crossed cheque or by transfer to a bank or post office account of which the employee is the holder or joint holder.

Sous réserve des dispositions législatives imposant le paiement des salaires sous une forme déterminée, le salaire est payé en espèces ou par chèque barré ou par virement à un compte bancaire ou postal dont le salarié est le titulaire ou le cotitulaire. Le salarié ne peut désigner un tiers pour recevoir son salaire.

Toute stipulation contraire est nulle.

En dessous d’un montant mensuel déterminé par décret, le salaire est payé en espèces au salarié qui le demande.

Au-delà d’un montant mensuel déterminé par décret, le salaire est payé par chèque barré ou par virement à un compte bancaire ou postal dont le salarié est le titulaire ou le cotitulaire.
