Article L3331-1 of the French Public Health Code

On-trade drinks outlets are divided into two categories according to the extent of the licence they hold:

1° (Repealed)

2° (Repealed)

3° The 3rd category licence, known as a “restricted licence”, includes authorisation to sell group one and three drinks for consumption on the premises;

4° The 4th category licence, known as a “grand licence” or “full licence”, includes authorisation to sell for consumption on the premises all drinks whose consumption indoors remains authorised, including those in the fourth and fifth groups.

Les débits de boissons à consommer sur place sont répartis en deux catégories selon l’étendue de la licence dont ils sont assortis :

1° (Abrogé)

2° (Abrogé)

3° La licence de 3e catégorie, dite ” licence restreinte “, comporte l’autorisation de vendre pour consommer sur place les boissons des groupes un et trois ;

4° La licence de 4e catégorie dite ” grande licence ” ou ” licence de plein exercice “, comporte l’autorisation de vendre pour consommer sur place toutes les boissons dont la consommation à l’intérieur demeure autorisée, y compris celles du quatrième et du cinquième groupe.
